03.03.17 GUEST MIX: DJ AARON MATTHEWS RETURNS!
This week the DANCEPOWERSTATION welcomes back our former ANTHEMS presenter, Aaron Matthews, to the Electric Guest Mix! We caught up with Aaron to find out more….
Tell us about your musical influences/heroes over the years…
My music taste is pretty eclectic, mainly started off by my parents love of late 80’s / early 90’s house music, so dance music has always been my number one love and I as I started going on holiday in my early twenties and hearing house music in Ibiza that’s where my passion really lies.
What is the first record you ever bought?
I think it was the GALA – Freed from desire on Vinyl, I don’t know what it is about that record but I still love it now.
How did you start DJing?
I started djing at friends parties when I was about 15, my Dad used to drive me around with my decks, it was so much better than having a paper round. Later my passion for music grew as my first job was working on a radio station in Southampton on the weekend dance shows, but also spent some time djing on weekends. Since I moved to London around 10 years ago I have worked at Capital, Kiss and Radio 1.
What has been your most memorable experience in a club?
Has to be in a outdoor club in Ibiza (which I can’t remember the name of) being outside listening to a type of house music I hadn’t heard before while the sun was going down surrounded by my friends, pretty special moment.
How would you describe your sound at the moment?
I am such a 90’s kid so at the moment there is a lot of 90’s vocal house around so I’m loving playing that, it gets such a good reaction.
What is your favourite track right now?
What can we expect from you on the DANCEPOWERSTATION for your guest mix?
You can expect some 90’s remixes, a fair few pianos and some nice vocals, lot’s of bouncy house tracks this Friday from 11pm!
Apart from DJ-ing, what else do you get up to?
Ooh what do you do there?
We are a bunch of creative lovelies, party people, music lovers and gig goers producing audio content for all sorts of people, like Levis and Shazam
Where can we catch you playing live?
I’m next playing at the RVT at a charity night called RU Coming Out on Thursday 20th April, celebrating the 5th birthday of RUComingOut – they launched in 2012 to provide online support for lesbian, gay, bi and trans people who are thinking about, or struggling with, coming out.
