Liverpool-based producer and DJ Friend Within has been on fire this year with big releases on Toolroom and a full-length project released this past February. Now he is taking on his latest challenge with a remix for The Tribe Of Good, a group of musicians and producers for Basement Jaxx, Quincy Jones, Jamiroquai, Black Legend, Sigma, and Elbow, led by Hal Ritson. Their Philadelphia disco inspired song “Turning It Up For The Sunshine” will be released this Friday via Ultra Music and It comes with remixes by Friend Within and Louis LaRoche.
The Friend Within remix is a short and efficient burst of disco, adding a dancefloor-friendly house groove to the structure of the song. The strings soar overtop, while vocals are chopped up to fit the restructured melody. It is addictive, groovy and most of all, fun. At only two minutes and 27 seconds long, it may seem a bit short, but it packs the right punch so you will just have to play this back a few more times.
Ritson says he started the group to help fill a void of positivity in the world.
“Everything you read online right now is so negative. It feels like there are dark forces dividing society – hate is becoming the norm, and it’s terrifying,” he explains in a statement. “I wanted to fight back with love and positivity. I formed The Tribe Of Good for that reason – we can resist hate with music.”
The remix will be released this Friday, December 14. Until that stream this disco inferno below.
