The Female Takeover / 2025
Celebrating the women
shaping electronic music.
Last October, our first Female Takeover brought emerging DJs and established names to Electric, each bringing their own sound and story.

for the first takeover.
A place for discovery.
From house and techno to trance, drum & bass and experimental sets, listeners discovered new names and heard what made each DJ’s music her own.
At the heart of the week was a community supporting women in electronic music, wherever they were in their DJ journey. That’s what we’re bringing back in 2026.

How it works
Four steps to the takeover.
Pre-registration
Thank you to everyone who registered their interest.
Invite
Selected DJs receive an email invite with their slot and takeover details.
Application
Follow your invite to complete your application. You can make an optional contribution at this stage.
Setup
Once your application is processed, we’ll guide you through uploading your mix and preparing your show and promotion.
Community support
Made possible by our community.
The Female Takeover creates space for more women in electronic music, championing grassroots talent and improving diversity and representation.
There’s no fee to take part because we don’t want financial circumstances to be a barrier to more women being heard. However, if you’re able to contribute £5, £10 or £15 when you apply, we’d really appreciate your support in helping us continue creating these opportunities.
Contributing won’t affect selection. Everyone gets the same tools and promotion.
Keeping Electric on air
Like most community radio projects, Electric is run by volunteers.
Your contributions help cover rising running costs, including PRS and PPL music licences.
These licences support royalty payments to the artists, songwriters and rightsholders behind the tracks featured in your takeover mix.
