Summer 2023: Which tracks will dominate DJ sets? đ§
As the festival season kicks off globally, Ibiza residencies hit full flow, and the glorious weather rolls in to town, itâs finally time to say those words we all crave: summer is here!
Long awaited day parties in the sun are rife, and for DJs and partygoers alike, an excitable buzz populates dance floors worldwide. However, a conundrum at the door of the DJ arrives around this time each year as they aim to bring the biggest sun-soaked records to their audience, and do so before everyone else catches on.
With the âTune of the Summerâ title given at the back end of the season, itâs time to look at three of this yearâs contenders.
KC Lights & LĂ„psley â Better Times
Akin to Michael BublĂ© at Christmas, once a year KC Lights rolls around with an absolute anthem for those hot days. Sure, heâs out here bringing stellar records all 12 months of the year, but you can be certain that come May/June the Glasweigian will be on hand with something a tune so hot it comes with a UV rating. âBetter Timesâ does exactly that, blending disco samples, rolling percussion, and a quality vocal performance into an undeniably catchy and vigorously upbeat banger on Mark Knightâs Toolroom Records.
Butch & Nic Fanciulli â I Want You
Released at the top of last month, this mega team up between two of house musicâs finest â Butch and Nic Fanciulli â lands on Toolroomâs friendly rivals Defected Records, and packs plenty of heat throughout. Already a strong feature in sets around the world, âI Want Youâ is simply in nature, rooted in the core house sound youâd expect from such a collaboration, and provides stiff competition to any who dare cross it. An undeniably floor-friendly record, this one isnât going anywhere and you can expect to hear it on your travels throughout the coming months.
D.O.D â So Much In Love
Rarely does a record find its way into a Swedish House Mafia set without carrying some serious credibility, but D.O.Dâs âSo Much In Loveâ has done exactly that, with good reason. Dropping in April on Armin van Buurenâs iconic Armada Music label, this delightfully uplifting record continues to spread far and wide, with BBC Radio 1 just adding it to their main playlist. Undoubtedly a contender for the forthcoming summer, the track blends relatively simplistic vocals with a tasty rolling bass to give something unbelievable palatable, which is a strong characteristic in a summer anthem.
