Using AI in your productions? Over half of musicians prefer to conceal use š¤

In a recent survey of over 1,000 artists by Pirate Studios, only 48% were willing to openly acknowledge their use of AI in music creation.
They gathered insights from 1,141 artists across the UK, US, and Germany, spanning various musical roles. 25% of these had already dabbled in AI production, and 46% of those were yet to dive in expressed a willingness to explore AI music tools in the future.
Despite a growing openness to AI, transparency remains a stumbling block, with only 48% committing to inform listeners when AI contributes to their tunes. Concerns lingered among 52% of respondents regarding how their audience would perceive AI-infused music.
Pirateās Co-founder and CEO, David Borrie, drew parallels with Auto-Tuneās history, highlighting artistsā initial resistance to controversial tech that eventually found its place in the music industry. Borrie suggested AIās journey might echo a similar evolution.
Exploring AIās role in the creative process, the survey also found āSongwriting & Compositionā as the sweet spot, with artists valuing AI assistance in crafting lyrics.
While some artists used AI for inspiration, others validated their lyrics through AI tools.
