The defining Voice of Disco: Donna Summer inducted into Hall of Fame

Donna Summer has been posthumously inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, more than a decade after her death in 2012. The honour recognises her songwriting contributions to iconic tracks such as I Feel Love, Love to Love You Baby and Bad Girls.
Despite her major influence on disco and electronic music, Summer was not inducted during her lifetime. Her husband Bruce Sudano noted that songwriter recognition was something she always felt was missing.
Although widely celebrated as a performer, her role as a songwriter was often overlooked. She co-wrote much of her catalogue, helping to shape the sound of disco and early electronic pop.
Her induction has renewed discussion around how songwriters are valued in the music industry. Artists like RAYE, Honey Dijon, Alison Wonderland and Nina Kravitz have highlighted the lack of recognition for creative authorship. Summer’s recognition highlights both her lasting legacy and the broader issue of how songwriting contributions are acknowledged.
