Bose returns to wired earbuds with a USB-C noise-cancelling model

Bose’s Noise Cancelling Wired Earbuds connect over USB-C and draw power from the device they’re plugged into. There is no internal battery to charge, putting a practical reason for choosing a cable at the centre of the company’s return to wired earbuds after 11 years.
For Electric’s DJs, wired listening is already familiar in the booth. The question raised by this launch is what happens away from it: could the simplicity of plugging in, without keeping another battery charged, make wired earbuds more appealing for everyday listening?
That is where the new pair may be interesting. Listening at home, travelling or checking music between other tasks can mean choosing what is easiest to keep ready. With these earbuds, the power comes from the connected device rather than a separate charge in each earbud.
There are still practical choices to make. The USB-C connection needs to suit the device you use, and a 128cm cable remains part of the setup. The appeal will depend on whether that physical connection feels more convenient than managing another battery.
Bose includes an inline remote and microphone alongside noise cancellation. Its three listening modes are Quiet, Aware and ANC Off, offering different settings within the same wired pair.
The company says playback output is fixed at 24-bit/48kHz and describes its SoundDesign processing as supporting lossless audio listening. The earbuds are listed in black and white, with Dewdrop Mint as a limited-edition colour.
Could this be part of a renewed interest in wired listening outside the club? For now, the useful question is personal: would one fewer battery to charge be enough to bring a cable back into your everyday setup?
